Ajeromi Hospital Recorded 882 Births In 2014

The Ajeromi General Hospital in Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government Area recorded 882 births in 2014, this is according to the Medical Director of the hospital , Olufemi Orebanjo.

Orebanjo, said out of the 882 births, 397 were through caesarian section, while 73 were through obstetric surgeries.

He made the disclosure today in an interview with newsmen in Lagos, said that the number was an improvement over the previous years’ records.

”The number of deliveries has increased since the inauguration of the ultra-modern Maternal and Child Centre (MCC) in the hospital in July, 2011. This facility, in 2011 performed 254 deliveries inclusive of 94 caesarean sections and 31 gynecological surgeries and since then, we have had significant increase.

”Our Maternal and Child Care Centres is a 100-bed specially designed hospital for women and children and has been providing additional referral facilities for functional primary health clinics in the area.

”Our efforts, with the support of the state government through the provision of needed equipment and infrastructure, contributed to our being able to manage the increasing number of births,” he said.

Orebanjo identified power supply, shortage of medical personnel and limited facilities as some of the challenges facing the hospital.

He said that the hospital required more space for expansion of its facilities.

”Our staff strength, as at December, 2014, was 327 and they are not enough to cope with the high number of patients that visit the hospital.

”Over 545 patients visit the hospital on daily basis. We need more doctors, pharmacists, nurses, laboratory scientists and hospital attendants.”
