Acting President Yemi Osinbajo is leading a high-powered delegation of the Federal Government to Bayelsa State this Friday as part of efforts to restore peace in the Niger Delta region. Osinbajo’s visit, reports say will enable the Federal Government further interact with stakeholders, understand their challenges and proffer solutions to them. Osinbajo and his team earlier visited Delta State, where he held meetings with major stakeholders on issues affecting the region.
The Bayelsa State Police Command has confirmed the Acting President’s visit and urged the public to go about their normal activities. In a statement in Yenagoa, the state capital, Police Commissioner Amba Asuquo said Osinbajo and his team would meet with traditional rulers, eminent Bayelsa indigenes and members of the conflict resolution committees….headded that the consultations were scheduled to hold at the DSP Alamieyeseigha Memorial Banquet Hall at the Government House in Yenagoa.
In another story, Osinbajo has met with heads of security and anti-corruption agencies and some cabinet ministers, including Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed and the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami Speaking with State House correspondents after the closed door meeting, which lasted for over two hours, EFCC boss, Ibrahim Magu declined to disclose the outcome of the meeting, but urged all Nigerians to join the ongoing fight against corruption. Osinbajo had earlier on Thursday, met with the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress and promised that government would continue to ensure due process and rule of law in the fight against corruption.
