More People Could be Charged in R. Kelly’s Case

Earlier this month, R. Kelly was arrested on federal sex crime charges. The 52-year-old is currently being held in solitary confinement at a Chicago prison, and will soon be transported to New York to face his felony charges on Aug. 2. The case in Illinois, which alleges that R. Kelly made videotapes of himself having sex with underage girls, is set to continue with another hearing on Wednesday (July 30). However, it has been revealed by Assistant U.S. Attorney Angel Krull that the case could implicate others and result in more charges, according to the Associated Press.
The charges in Chicago, which include producing and receiving child pornography, could result in two of the singer’s associates getting hit with charges. While Krull did not elaborate on what that means, it would hint at there being evidence that friends of his helped facilitate the crimes he’s been accused of. Kelly, who is currently being held without bond, wasn’t at the hearing on Thursday.
Kelly’s defense attorney, Steve Greenberg, has also protested an order that Krull asked for that would protect further evidence against Kelly from being revealed publicly. She stated that attorneys should limit what they can say publicly about the case, citing possible personal harassment from Kelly’s fans. She highlighted that his fans have already targetted potential witnesses in the case. Greenberg, however, believes the order is too restrictive.
If found guilty of the charges in Illinois, Kelly could face up to 195 years.
