The National Institute of Sports has said it would replicate its Lagos manpower centre in Abuja as part of its plans to expand the scope its sports development activities.
The Director of the institute, Sunny Ikhioya, told newsmen in Abuja on Friday that the Abuja centre would operate like the one in Lagos.
“In the last National Council on Sports in Ilorin, Kwara State, we said we’re going to expand the scope of the National Institute of Sports, so it is possible NIS will expand. In doing that, we are following the line of Law School. So, that will enable us utilise the facilities in Abuja. I think that will be a better way to go. We have the athletes’ development centre in Abuja and if we have the manpower centre here too as we do have in Lagos, I think it will galvanise the activities of the athletes development centre,” he stated.
He, however, said the delay in the completion of the institute’s athletes’ hostel located at the Package `B’ of the National Stadium, Abuja, was hampering the development of the Abuja manpower centre.
