Ayo Mairo-Ese (nee Thompson) is a multiple award-winning Broadcaster, Event Compere and Public Speaker. She is the co-host of the widely acclaimed breakfast show on Smooth 98.1FM ‘Smooth Breakfast”.
She began her career in media in 2014 and has hosted the breakfast show in a number of stations across Lagos. She has had the privilege of interviewing some personalities such as Richard Quest, Eric Roberts, Don Moen, Travis Greene, Sonnie Badu amongst others.
In 2016, Ayo won The Future Awards Africa Prize for On-Air Personality of the year (Radio), the ELOY award for TV Presenter of the year and the 19ROM (Role Model) Awards for TV Presenter of the year.
As an Event Host, Ayo explored her skills for engaging a live audience while at University. Since then, she has compered a number of shows here in Nigeria and in the UK, including Swansea’s Got Talent (Wales), Swansea Refugee Week, Black History Month events, All Wales Race and Equality Seminar, Relationship talk shows, musical concerts amongst others.
She has hosted big-budget events and productions including the Annual UBA CEO Awards, Stanbic IBTC’s Arts and The Acts Event, Arise Women’s Conference, Stanbic IBTC Young Leadership Series and the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) Awards.
Notably, she was one of the hosts of God’s Children’s Great Talent, a talent competition for children and the young across Nigeria with live auditions held in Lagos, Portharcourt and Abuja and produced for television showing on a variety of national and international platforms, and a live grand finale at the Eko Hotel, with over 2000 people in attendance.
Passionate about women, she serves as a role model to women and young people and is a sought-after Speaker at conferences. She is an advocate for promoting and empowering Nigerian women and uses her platforms to support women as much as possible.
Ayo expresses her passion for writing as a blogger and runs the 1 + The One blog that focuses primarily on love and relationships with a Christian focus. (She loves love!)In addition, she has a keen interest in development work and is the Executive Director (voluntary capacity) at Basic Education Africa, a non-governmental organisation that seeks to promote access to quality education for every child in Africa.
Ayo is a graduate of International Relations from Swansea University, UK. She enjoys meeting and working with people, reading, dancing and absolutely loves and values her family.
She is happily married to musician Mairo Ese.
