Apply To Be Participate In The Regional Youth Roundtable on Climate Action.

Written by on August 7, 2019

To further strengthen Nigeria’s position as a member country of the United Nations’ Youth Engagement and Public Mobilisation track at the Climate Action Summit in September 2019, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Federal Ministry of Environment through its Department of Climate Change, is hosting a Regional Youth Roundtable on Climate Action to unlock youth innovativeness in Nigeria’s climate action.

Young individuals who are actively taking climate actions and leading innovative ideas in all states across the country are invited to apply to be a part of the Regional Youth Roundtable on Climate Action.

Females and the physically challenged are particularly encouraged to apply and eventually become part of the climate incubation hub that will be launched.

The Climate Incubation Hub is led by the UNDP in Nigeria and the Federal Ministry of Environment through the Department of Climate Change.

Executing organisations are Health of Mother Earth Foundation (HOMEF), International Climate Change Development Initiative (ICCDI Africa), and Talent Plus Resource Initiative.

According to Seyifunmi Adebote, State Coordinator of ICCDI Africa, who led Nigeria’s youth delegation to the United Nations Stocktaking Climate Meeting in Abu Dhabi, recently,  “The aim of organising the Climate Incubation Hub is to unlock the innovativeness of Nigerian Youths taking climate action.

“The hub will also serve as a platform that aggregates climate actions and leading innovative ideas happening in all states across Nigeria.

“On the other hand, this is meant to strengthen Nigeria’s position as a member country of the United Nations Climate Action Summit under the youth engagement and public mobilisation track which is one of the nine workstreams for the Secretary-General Climate Action Summit in September 2019 to hold in New York.

“Before the launch of the Climate Incubation Hub, there will be a Regional Climate Innovation Roundtable in all regions of the country, and then a national event that will harness all the ideas and form a part of the president’s presentation in New York during the Climate Action Summit in September.”

According to Adebote, “The targets are primarily youths from ages 18 to 29 taking climate action, especially at local levels. However, outstanding ideas that are youth-focused are welcomed, even if it’s led by people outside that age group. Applications from females and physically challenged are strongly welcomed.”

The zonal roundtable will happen simultaneously in the six regions from August 13 to 18 and be summed up with a national Climate Action round-table which will bring selected delegates from each zone to Abuja where the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo is expected to attend.”
