Omoyele Sowore Remains Detained As Court Denied His Bail Application

The Federal High Court, Abuja has declined the motion filed by Human Rights Activist, Omoyele Sowore challenging his detention for forty-five days by the State Security Service and has also referred the case back to Judge Taiwo Taiwo.

Justice Nkweonye Maha, the judge who presided over the court stated that she was not in the position to review the decision of her colleague Justice Taiwo Taiwo.

Sowore’s defence, Femi Falana requested that the court set aside the exparte order granted by Justice Taiwo Taiwo. Falana stated that Sowore’s application was based on the violation of human rights hence the judge had the right the hear and review the previous order.
Afterwards, he made an oral application for the applicant’s bail when the earlier application was denied.
However, all of his argument fell on deaf ears as Justice Nkweonye maintained her decision to send the case back to Justice Taiwo Taiwo for further hearing.

Omoyele Sowore who was also a candidate in the last presidential election was arrested on August 3rd by operatives of the DSS.
