For the first time in its history, the Most Influential People of African Descent (MIPAD) recognition ceremony will move from its traditional home in New York to Lagos. The prestigious event is scheduled for Sunday, December 21, marking the climax of the week-long Lagos Diaspora Experience 2025.
The ceremony will honor high-achieving individuals who have advanced global African achievement. This year’s heavyweight honorees include Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Governor of the Year), music superstar Davido, and Oando Group Chief Executive Adewale Tinubu (Man of the Year). Also to be feted are MTN Nigeria CEO Karl Toriola and the Queen Consort of the Warri Kingdom, Olorì Atúwàtse III. The move to host the awards locally is seen as a significant boost for Nigeria’s image as a global cultural capital.
