Cassper Nyovest Says His Naija Comments Were Marketing
Written by Smooth FM on July 31, 2019
Fans of South African rapper; Casper Nyovest were in meltdown mode on Tuesday after their idol claimed on Twitter that he wished he was Nigerian, because he felt he would get more support there.
The Drama started over the weekend on Twitter, during a discussion about the state of the South African music industry, in which comparisons were drawn with Nigeria.
This prompted the rapper to reply to a fan, who said he wished Cass was Nigerian.
Cassper responded by saying: “I won’t even lie. I wish I was from Nigeria too. The love they have for their own artists. The way they celebrate their culture, 90% local content on radio and TV. The way they celebrate their music, no matter where they are in the world. The unity within their industry. A dream!”

But this did not sit well with other fans, who felt they had been supporting Cassper’s musical journey since the beginning. As you might have guessed, Casper became the No 1 trending topic on south african social media.
Reacting to the backlash, the rapper released a ‘statement’ on twitter, claiming his recent comments about wanting to be Nigerian were part of a drive to promote his next #FillUp concert.
While fans were still waging war against each other over his comments, Cassper claimed that the debate was part of a marketing strategy to promote his concert.
