PRESS RELEASE: Nigerian Youth SDGs Network Commemorates International Youth Day with Youth Dialogue in 20 States
Written by Smooth FM on August 8, 2019
Nigerian Youth SDGs Network, a coalition of youth led and focused civil society organizations localizing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals through advocacy and SDGs project implementation, will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the International Youth Day with a regional dialogue across 20 states in the 6 geopolitical zones of Nigeria.
The International Youth Day, observed annually on August 12, was established by the General Assembly of the United Nations in celebration of the 1.8 billion people in the world and as a day to highlight the role of youth in creating an inclusive and sustainable society for everyone.
The theme of the regional dialogue “Amplifying Youth Voices for the SDGs” is a clarion call to the Nigerian government and private sector leaders for urgent action to involve young people in finding solutions to the issues facing us like access to quality education, healthcare, decent jobs, a conducive and live-able environment with peace and accountability.
The consultation is sponsored by NGO partners across the 6 geopolitical zones to drive accountability and the localization of the 2030 Agenda.
The dialogue which will be the second in two years will have young people create a youth declaration and a two year strategic roadmap on how government and the private sector can work with Nigerian youth as we usher in “a decade of delivery” on the SDGs by the year 2020.
