Shola Thompson Reviews ‘Living In Bondage’

After waiting for over 20 years, Nigerian moviegoers got to see the sequel to Nollywood classic — “Living in Bondage.”
Directed by Ramsey Nouah, the 2019 film tells the story of Nnamdi, Andy Okeke’s son whose quest for the lavish life takes him down the same questionable path his father took.
Our resident movie buff; Shola Thompson, has seen the movie and here’s what he thinks:
I was gonna go home and set up to shoot a review but I just couldn’t hold back. (This was done in the hallway of the cinema I watched it at)
A career best performance by Ramsey Noah, breakthrough performance by Swanky JKA, flawless Soundtrack and theme music and of course the best cinematography for a Nollywood movie ever… well … so far.
The screenplay was magnificent and the attention to detail with the usually disregarded elements was very impressive. The seamless marriage between scenes from outside Nigeria and local scenes was also commendable and the audio work was splendid.
Munachi and Swanky had great on screen chemistry and it felt so natural.(this is why I have always been an advocate for people using more local dialects in their movie).
The switch between English and Igbo was so effortless and stylish that I didn’t really mind when in one or two scenes, the subtitles didn’t come up. There might have been some slight overreacting from the reporter dude in one or two scenes but that hardly takes away from this movie.
A lot of people need to aware of other people who actively look for problems so they can seem like they are hard to please and therefore intelligent, because Its great to see that whatever issues this movie had wasn’t a Nollywood recurrent it was more a “world class” problem.
