Consul General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Lagos, Mr Jan Van Weijen says the Netherlands would partner the state government for a mutually beneficial relationship.
He has also asked the Lagos State Government to study how his country used its waterways to resolve its transport challenges.
The consul general visited the Lagos House in Ikeja to inform the governor of the upcoming visit of the Netherlands Prime Minister to Nigeria in November for a bilateral meeting.
Van Weijen said it was necessary to meet the Lagos governor ahead to discuss cooperation between the Netherlands and Lagos in areas of mutual interests, including inland waterway administration, intermodal transportation and efficient public health services.
“We are looking at cooperation in transportation, exploring the Lagos waterways to alleviate the pain of road transportation. The Netherlands has achieved much progress in this area; we request Lagos to study the solution we proffered in order to solve its transportation problems.” he said.
Lagos State Governor Sanwo-Olu had earlier mooted a partnership with the Dutch country, saying Lagos shared common realities with Amsterdam – the Netherlands’ most populous city and capital.
He said his government was looking forward to activating collaborations that could bring about foreign direct investment in Lagos to boost capacity of transportation in the state.
